Privacy Policy
It is the policy of Catholic Homes that information is managed appropriately with regard to collection, security, storage, use and disclosure, as identified throughout the processes.
Privacy is an integral part of our professional ethics and statutory obligations. We are committed to ensuring the privacy protection of all information collected on behalf of our residents/clients and staff. By implementing the principles embodied in the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988, Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000, Information Privacy Act 2000 and the Health Records Act 2001, we will ensure that all personal information is accorded treatment consistent with minimum privacy standards. By abiding by these principles we aim to provide effective and efficient services, whilst respecting the confidentiality and privacy rights of our staff and residents/clients, and clearly demonstrate the organisation’s commitment to the welfare of all individuals.
Information Privacy Principles are legally binding standards
that regulate the way agencies collect, store, use and disclose
information. These principles include
the requirements that:
- individuals be told why the information is being collected;
- individuals have access to personal information about them;
- personal information is only used for the purpose for which it was collected; and
- personal information not be disclosed, except where provided to the individuals concerned, or where consented disclosure provides legitimate release.
These principles provide individuals with an enforceable right of access to their information as held by our organisation. All requests for access to or correction of information should proceed through the Catholic Homes Privacy Officer.
A framework exists to ensure that all individuals have their right of access to personal information considered appropriately and an opportunity to raise any concerns regarding the privacy policy and practices of Catholic Homes with our organisation.
